Materials

Andersen makes A-Series Windows using wood, fiberglass, and Fibrex® composite material. With quality materials and craftsmanship, you can expect them to look and perform as great after Year 20 as on Day 1.

Wood

Andersen offers 6 interior wood species as standard for their A-Series. Each choice offers distinctive grain patterns and staining capabilities that reflect your unique vision of home. Wood frames and sashes are not only beautiful, but boast structural strength, peak thermal performance, and lasting quality benefitting your budget and the planet.

Fiberglass and Fibrex® composite material

Andersen builds A-Series exteriors using fiberglass and Fibrex® composite material.

Fiberglass is made of resin reinforced with glass. This super-strong material provides lasting protection against water, wind, heat, light, debris, and more. However, the material cannot be extruded and lacks the design flexibility of Fibrex®.

Fibrex® is Andersen Windows’ patented composite material, made as an alternative to vinyl using wood fiber and thermoplastic polymer. As part of Andersen’s commitment to sustainability, much of the material in Fibrex® is reclaimed from their own production processes.

Outperforming its component materials, Fibrex® also boasts superior strength, durability, and thermal performance to vinyl. In fact, the material is twice as solid as vinyl with 700 times better thermal control!

By providing long-lasting protection and durability, the A-Series reduces costly, wasteful repairs and replacements. Recently, Andersen concluded a twenty-year study on Fibrex® windows that had been installed in the Minnesota home of a real customer. After testing both onsite and in the lab, the results showed no loss of color, weathertightness, or operability.

Colors

For no additional cost, choose from an array of standard color options for A-Series Windows that complement your home’s unique character. You have the choice to combine colors for added design flexibility that will elevate your home both inside and out.

Exteriors

Andersen offers 11 standard colors for A-Series exteriors. During production, your colors of choice are blended directly into the Fibrex® composite material, resulting in a beautiful exterior that won’t fade, crack, or peel.

You can choose any combination of exterior color options for your frames, sashes, and trims.

Interiors

The A-Series line includes 6 factory stains and 7 painted options as standard for interior woodwork. Clear coat is the most versatile choice because it is available on all six wood species. Clear coat protects your interiors while revealing the natural beauty of grain patterns, color, and texture in the wood.

You can apply other factory-finished interiors to pine, maple, and oak, or painted options to pine and maple.

Like A-Series exteriors, you can choose any combination of color options for your interior frames, sashes, and grilles.

Andersen will leave interior woodwork unfinished unless otherwise specified. You may prefer to leave interiors unfinished in order to apply your own stain or paint.

Sizes

The A-Series offers a wide spectrum of standard and custom sizing options in precise 1/8” increments. Available dimensions range from 15 1/4” to 95 1/4”, depending on the type of window you choose.

It has never been easier to combine windows and expand your vision. Designed in collaboration with architects, Andersen describes how A-Series Windows “share features such as common sight lines, glass setback, and sizing.” Andersen’s innovative approach gives you both flexibility and ease in your design process.

Architectural authenticity in many types

Whether you need ventilation, views, or both, you can choose windows that hinge, slide, or remain stationary:

Awning

Awning windows are designed with a hinge on the top and swing outward from the bottom. You might choose awning windows for the following reasons:

  • Provide ventilation that protects from the rain

  • Create airflow in combination with large stationary windows

  • Place higher on the walls for airflow with privacy

Andersen’s A-Series awning windows feature an exterior made of wood protected by fiberglass and Fibrex® composite material.

Casement

Andersen A-Series: casement

Casement windows are designed with hinges on one side and swing outward from the other side using a crank. You might choose casement windows for the following reasons:

  • Control airflow with top-to-bottom ventilation

  • Provide plenty of natural light from windows up to 8 feet tall

Andersen’s A-Series casement windows feature an exterior made of wood that is protected by fiberglass and Fibrex® composite material.

Double-hung

A-Series Windows: single & double-hung

Double hung windows are designed to remain flush with the wall and opens vertically from both top and bottom sashes. You might choose double-hung windows for the following reasons:

  • Ventilation options from the top, bottom, or both

  • Ease of cleaning from the inside of your home

  • Compatible with opening control devices, window guards, and air conditioning units

  • Installation facing areas with foot traffic including walkways, patios, and decks

Andersen’s A-Series double hung windows feature an exterior made of wood that is protected by fiberglass and Fibrex® composite material.

Picture

A-Series Windows: picture

Picture windows are designed to be stationary windows that do not open. You might choose picture windows for the following reasons:

  • Expansive views with plenty of natural light

  • Install in combination with awning, casement, or other styles for ventilation

  • Combine several for bay & bow design

Andersen’s A-Series picture windows feature an exterior made of wood that is protected by fiberglass.

Specialty

A-Series Windows: specialty

Specialty windows are designed to be stationary windows that do not open. Available in custom shapes including circular, arched, and asymmetrical, you might choose specialty windows for the following reasons:

  • Create a striking focal point

  • Add more natural light

  • Enhance design in combination with double hung, casement, or other styles

  • Install in combination with awning, casement, or other styles for ventilation

Andersen’s A-Series specialty windows feature an exterior made of wood that is protected by aluminum.

Venting & stationary transom

Transom windows are designed for installation above door frames or alongside other windows. Available as venting or stationary, you might choose transom windows for the following reasons:

A-Series Windows: Glass as good for your home as the planet

Andersen leads the industry in their commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship. In fact, 2022 marks the eighth consecutive year that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy recognized Andersen as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year: Sustained Excellence winner. According to EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan, award winners like Andersen show how “support of a clean energy economy can be good not only for the environment, but also for businesses and customers.”

By using high-performance glass, A-Series Windows are Andersen’s best-ever line for energy efficiency. Choose from multiple options for glass that insulates, filters light, and provides crystal clear views. Whatever you choose, you are making the smartest choice for your home as well as our planet.

Low-E4® glass is a great overall choice for Minnesota climates. In addition to energy efficiency applicable both to heating and cooling your home, Low-E4® glass allows for ample light filtering and strong UV Protection. Add HeatLock® Coating for increased capacity to prevent heat from escaping.

SmartSun™ glass provides even stronger thermal control and UV Protection than Low-E4® glass. Andersen compares the thermal protection of SmartSun™ glass to tinted glass, with enhanced capacities if you choose HeatLock® Coating. SmartSun™ glass may be a good option for south-facing windows that receive many hours of direct sunlight.

PassiveSun® glass is another good choice for Minnesota climates. The glass allows the sun’s heat to pass through and keep your home warm and cozy.

Triple-Pane glass with Low-E coatings on two surfaces is Andersen’s most energy efficient option. With an extra pane of glass, Triple-Pane glass prevents costly energy transfers between the heat inside your home and the outside cold.

Clear Dual-Pane glass offers the highest visibility of any A-Series glass options, with basic thermal performance.

Additional options for A-Series Windows include laminated glass for added strength and sound reduction, or patterned glass for added privacy.

A rock-solid transferable warranty

As an industry leader for more than one hundred years, Andersen backs up their work with a transferrable Owner-to-Owner® Limited Warranty. Your A-Series windows are guaranteed for 20 years on glass and 10 years on non-glass components, raising your home value while settling your mind.
